Exclusive Analysis Client Case Study: Colombia - Investment in Family-Owned Conglomerate
A leading law firm wanted a due diligence check on a family-run business conglomerate in Colombia it had been asked to represent. The client wanted to know how whether the conglomerate and its newly expanding investments were of sound reputation.
Solution: We were able to leverage our proprietary source network, in-depth knowledge base of President Uribe’s political connections and his closed ranks of associates, and country expertise. We assessed that the subject was a legitimately run business and the president regarded the group well. However our investigations revealed some likely historical dealings with paramilitaries. Whilst we uncovered no further evidence of reputational issues or corruption, including any ties with the FARC rebel group, we were able to alert our client to a potential cause for concern. This was fed into their risk management and deal selection process.
